Tee Set Golf Society played its inaugural game at Sawangan on 4th September 1983 and so has recently celebrated its 37th year anniversary. Since then, we have played more than 1,900 events in and around the Jakarta area and despite the ups and downs, we continue to be as strong as ever in providing a casual game of golf for those looking to come out on a Sunday and enjoy a friendly game washed down by a few refreshments afterwards.
The group has not missed a weekend’s golf since formation in 1983 which might indicate a degree of seriousness about what we do – but in fact it’s all just for fun. Tee Set rules follow the Royal and Ancient rule-book with one important addition: you must be able to stand up at the first tee box, unaided, when ready to start the round.
Tee Set’s membership is a broad cross section of expatriates based here in Indonesia and local players such that we have over 20 different nationalities active week to week. There is absolutely no obligation to play every week, or in fact any particular week. A tee time is booked in advance but start times take into consideration what may have happened the Saturday night before.
We play on a wide variety of the many great courses to be found in and around the Jakarta and Bogor areas. A typical Sunday turnout is somewhere between 35 and 65 golfers which guarantees being able to play with different people each game and increase your network of contacts.
The Society boasts levels of expertise from those just starting out in the game all the way through to single digit handicappers. Handicaps are maintained under the USGA system (until the world handicap system is implemented locally) and members can submit cards from any other game outside Tee Set to ensure their handicaps are kept current.
The Society is managed and run by Committee members that are elected each year. The Committee organizes the regular Sunday events, participation in the Jakarta Inter-league Match Play competition and annual tournaments.
A levy of Rp100,000 is payable upon registration for each event, and amount which funds the weekly achievement awards (small cash prizes) for various golf feats, such as Low Gross, Low Net, 1st Birdie, 1st Sandy Par, Most Improved and Low Putts to name but a few. What is left over goes towards helping fund the best golfing event in Jakarta, the Tee Set Championship held in November each year – and of course to defray the other expenses incurred in running our regular weekly events.
A newsletter documenting the previous week’s activities and confirming the course for the upcoming Sunday is provided each week by email to those who follow us and on the web site. Lots of other information to be found there of course including Handicaps, Monthly Medal, the Schedule, Match Play, our Eclectic and much else besides.
Tee Set wishes you happy golfing in Indonesia and we hope to see you joining our group one day soon, you can sign up here when you are ready to join the fun ….. Tee Set
